
The time to sun-dry harvested peanuts has almost reached its peak in Yachimata, Chiba Prefecture. Air drying the peanuts is dependent upon weather and takes more time than drying them with a machine, but it is said to make the peanuts sweeter and tastier.
Employees of Masuda Co., a peanut processing company that specializes in sun drying its legumes, spreads freshly harvested and washed peanuts on a net on Tuesday to allow them to air-dry. Masuda Chairman Shigeru Masuda, 79, said that although demand has declined because of the pandemic, the company will do its best to sell more peanuts toward the end of the year when demand will grow.
