Time to Chile: Top Edinburgh diner 83 Hanover is now doing brunch and lunch

Revolutionary eatery 83 Hanover Street has shaken up the Edinburgh restaurant scene with an serving of Chilean food with a Scottish twist

Since its opening in August 2018 the first dining project from former Gleneagles restaurant manager Juan José Castillo Castro has gone from strength to strength.

Sitting just off George Street on the famous Hanover Street the unique basement diner is still making waves.

Their menus are being given a fresh burst of energy as brunch and lunch join the line up.

From this Sunday ( February 9) customers can enjoy a casual brunch, starting at a relaxed 11am and continuing until 7pm.

Dishes include an Eggs Benedict dish of poached eggs resting traditional fried sopailpillas as well as sweet courses such as banana pancakes with a side of South American milk caramel.

A merkén-spiced roast chicken makes for a perfect 'Sunday Roast' option for two.

While the drinks list verges on the decadent with Pisco-based Bloody Marys and crystal-clear Sundaytinis.

Diners exploring the new lunch menu from next week will discover among the offerings a pan-fried stone bass with potatoes in mojo rojo, and a bavette steak topped with a fried egg and served with fries. 

Doors will open for lunch at 12pm from Tuesday to Saturday with a short menu of three starters, three mains and two desserts available at £12 for two courses, or £15 for three.

Those without the luxury if time can avail of the quicker, more casual option of three gourmet sandwichs - each served with merkén-spiced fries.

Next week’s choices are grilled aged cheese with sautéed onions, tomatoes and oregano; Barros Luco grilled steak with melted cheese and sautéed onions on crispy bread; and whitebait with merkén aioli and rocket salad on crispy bread.

Priced at £7, all three are available to eat in or take away.
