Time running out for North East companies to enter Best Places To Work

Companies that want to make the list of the North East’s best places to work have just a few days left to get in their entries.

The Best Places to Work initiative is being run by The Journal as part of a drive to make the North East a better place in which to live and work.

The inaugural competition last year saw Gateshead College named the best employer in the region with judges praising its inspirational leadership, commitment to staff development and the role it plays in its community.

Awards also went to Muckle LLP, Ubisoft Reflections and O Communications, while Northumberland manufacturing plant Egger won best community involvement, Hoults Yard won the prize for best workplace perk and NBS won the best office award.

A total of 50 companies from around the region were named on a list of honour of top employers and entries for this year’s awards need to be submitted by the end of this week.

Best Places to Work , which has won support from the CBI, the North East England Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Small Businesses, takes place at the Biscuit Factory in Newcastle on June 13.

Businesses will be judged on a number of criteria, including how they look after their staff’s health; the role each company plays in their communities; perks, benefits and bonuses offered to staff; and efforts to provide a good work-life balance.

Prizes will be awarded to the region’s best large, medium, small and not-for-profit companies, as well as prizes for the best workplace perk, best office, best boss and best community involvement.

Journal business editor Graeme Whitfield said: “We know from last year how great it was to see companies coming together to celebrate the things they do to make life better for their employees.

“One of the ways the North East can set itself apart from other regions is its quality of life and we want that to apply to the time people are at work as well as when they are not.

“We’re hoping that as many companies as possible enter the awards so that we can highlight those firms that go the extra mile to reward their workforces and look after them.”
