Time for Afobe? Bentley or Maenpaa? - Pick your Bristol City team to take on Sheffield Wednesday

Lee Johnson has serious decisions to make for Sunday’s visit of Sheffield Wednesday as Bristol City’s performance at Blackburn didn’t little to argue the case for anyone to keep their place at Ashton Gate.

The Robins delivered a desperately disappointing performance from front to back with age-old criticisms and observations from an increasingly frustrated fanbase that City went out to contain Blackburn, not attack them.

The knock-on effect of that defeat, and City’s slide down the table, is that Sunday’s visit of the Owls – who seem in all sorts of bother off the field – is, at the very least a must-not lose, probably even a must win.

City are without a victory in eight games, and second from bottom in the Championship form table; three points would be a welcome relief not just to end that run but restore belief in the team for the remainder of 2019/20.

Dan Bentley’s place is conceivably under threat following two high-profile errors but would you keep faith with the No1, or give Niki Maenpaa a run in the side as reward for his consistency when called upon.

Should the defence – which lacked organisation at authority at Ewood Park – be completely changed or are just minor tweaks required; admittedly, with one change needed as right-back Pedro Pereira has a thigh injury.

Centre midfield remains a problem area for the Robins as to who should play with Markus Henriksen now having left the club. And the identity of who plays in the middle then has an effect on the wing.

As for the attack, is it time for Benik Afobe to start after his 18-minute cameo against Blackburn and what of the returning Andi Weimann, a regular favourite of the head coach?

We haven't, as you may have noticed, included any of the returning loan players - after the news on Thursday night that they are now eligible to play this season - mainly because their lack of time on the training ground means it's unlikely we'll see them in action.
