'Hopefully another deal is sorted' - Bristol City fans react after Lee Johnson sheds light on his future at the club

Bristol City fans have voiced their opinions after Lee Johnson shed some light on his plans for the future.

The head coach's contract is due to expire at the end of next season.

Having taken the reins in 2016, Johnson has guided City through consecutive play-off chases against the odds. While there is still a flicker of hope this season, it looks as though they will fall agonisingly short.

Although the Robins boss was non-committal about his future beyond the 2019/20 campaign, What Lee Johnson said when asked about his Bristol City future with a year left to run on his contract in an interview last week.

"I certainly hope so," he said when asked by the BBC if he intended to stay next season.

"I think as long as the club is matching my ambition and I’m matching the club’s ambition then it’s the perfect team because hopefully the trust is there.

"I’m very ambitious but I’m ambitious for the football club that I’m at. I think that’s the key.

"I’ve got a year left on my contract and I don’t expect to not see that out."

That was music to the ears of most City fans, although some suggested it was time for a change.

Neil Skuse commented: "I really think Mr L [Lansdown] has got to back the guy. Clearly LJ loves our club just like us and wants the best for it.

"Give him the right tools and I believe he can take us to the next level. Mr L that is something you can do let’s see it happen next season."

Christopher Green added: "Were all going in the right direction together. He's done a fantastic job this season."

On Twitter, Chris wrote: "Maybe his saying as long as club matches his ambition is a way of saying back me in the summer?"

Tom tweeted: "Would be very surprised if he left anytime soon. Hopefully another deal is sorted in the summer."

Jamie Evans added: "Amazing to see what he’s done on and off the pitch for the club.

"Shows what a manager can do if the bedsheets and pitchforks are ignored and he’s given time and backing.

"We’re on the up and without LJ we wouldn’t be where we are. I don’t think he’ll be going anywhere anytime soon."

Neil Sutton commented: "Never been a massive fan of LJ, but respect where it's due; this season has been a massive surprise, and he deserves a new deal."

Others were more sceptical.

Levi Bowden added: "Would wait and see how we start next season first. Then think about a new deal."
