President Donald Trump, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the World Record Egg have been named as some of TIME Magazine’s Most Influential People on the Internet.
Old Town Road singer Lil Nas X, US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Greta Thunberg-led School Strikers were also included in the fifth annual round-up.
The magazine says they chose the list based on “global impact on social media and their overall ability to drive news.”
Mr Trump was included for “ramping up” his digital presence in 2019, tweeting a massive 84 times on May 1, and for using his huge Twitter following to criticise the campaign into Russian election interference.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were praised for launching their Instagram account in April, which smashed the record for the most followers gained in six hours at one million.
The magazine added that “the Sussexes’ forward-thinking, cause-oriented approach to social media fits neatly with other ways they are establishing their identity beyond the crown.”
The Hong Kong Protesters were included for their use of “online platforms put to effective use by protesters who want to stay both active and anonymous,” sparked by the government’s controversial extradition bill.
Well-known personalities named in the list were Korean supergroup BTS, singer Cardi B, Ariana Grande and beauty vlogger James Charles.
Campaigners such as Saudi teenage runaway Rahaf Mohammed, border wall activist Brian Kolfage, body positivity champion Jameela Jamil and Medicare supporter Ady Barkan also made the list for their work.
Social media stars including Vine’s Liza Koshy, YouTubers Emma Chamberlain and German Garmendia, Zhang Dayi and Benjamin Lupo were also included.
Journalists Yashar Ali and Carlos Maza, teen star JoJo Siwa, conservative champion Ben Shapiro, and Jada Pinkett Smith rounded off the list.
