Timberwolves reportedly aggressive in trying to trade up to No. 4

The Minnesota Timberwolves may be emerging as a potential avenue for the Los Angeles Lakers to create max cap space and add a third star alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

According to Marc Stein of The New York Times, the Timberwolves are in talks with the New Orleans Pelicans to move up in the draft and take the fourth pick, which originally belonged to the Lakers.

This could open up an avenue for the Lakers to trade players such as Moe Wagner, Jemerrio Jones and Isaac Bonga to Minnesota to clear cap space for their free agent pursuits. It appears that Minnesota would be most concerned with snagging someone like Vanderbilt point guard Darius Garland at No. 4.

However, the Lakers’ end of the deal would require the Pelicans to amend the original terms of the Davis deal and the Timberwolves to have legitimate interest in the young players the Lakers are offering.

Those points are ultimately crucial unknowns that will determine the Lakers’ ability to make a deal.
