Timber yard gutted in Yevalewadi

PUNE: A timber yard was gutted in a fire at Yevalewadi early on Thursday morning.

A truck was also partially damaged in the blaze. The city fire brigade received the emergency call around 5.15am, and the flames were extinguished by 7.30am.

Fire brigade officials suspect that the fire broke out due to a short circuit in the electrical cables of the yard. Fire station duty officer Sameer Shaikh told TOI, "Five of the yard's workers were sleeping in a room on the premises and rushed out of the godown after the fire broke out. No one was injured."

The officer added, "The timber yard is spread over almost 20,000sqft, with wood, plywood and other articles, including polish, stored inside. These material added fuel to the fire."
