The advantage Tottenham have over Arsenal and Man United in Philippe Coutinho loan deal

The future of Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho is high on the agenda as we head into the final days of the transfer window.

The former Liverpool midfielder has struggled to make a name for himself under Ernesto Valverde at the Camp Nou and has been linked with a return to the Premier League, albeit on loan.

Coutinho is reportedly against a loan move, with the Brazilian keen to fight for his place in the Barca team, and if such a time comes that he feels he cannot make an impact he would seek a move away, but permanently.

However, with just days of the English transfer window remaining, a loan move has been touted, with conflicting reports over a potential move to Arsenal.

French publication l'Equipe reported that Coutinho was expected to complete a loan move to Arsenal before the deadline closed, while ESPN have reported that the Gunners are not interested in the Brazilian at all, as they aim to tie up defensive additions.

TalkSport have now said that Coutinho has been offered to four Premier League clubs on loan - Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham.

And Spurs could have an advantage when it comes to snaring the 27-year-old in the form of manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Coutinho enjoyed a successful loan spell at Espanyol in 2012, moving there in the second half of the season from Inter Milan. He scored five goals in 16 appearances under the Spanish side's manager then, Pochettino.

Within six months he moved to Liverpool before making a big money move to Barcelona in January 2018, where he has struggled to make the impact he would have wanted.

And South American football expert Tim Vickery believes Spurs cannot be ruled out in the Coutinho chase.

"There is a Tottenham connection here, Philippe Coutinho was picked up by Inter Milan as a young man and really struggled there and they practically gave him away for free to Liverpool," he told Sky Sports News.

"There was one place he did shine before coming to England and that was at Espanyol under Mauricio Pochettino.

"I'm not sure Tottenham would be prepared to spend the amount of money it would take to bring him to London, but there's that connection, the fact he shone under Pochettino, that makes that an interesting one."
