Tim Tebow officially signs one-year contract with Philadelphia Eagles

April 20--Quarterback Tim Tebow, who last played in the NFL more than two seasons ago, has signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, the team announced Monday.

Tebow will be one of four quarterbacks who will take part in the Eagles' off-season program. His signing comes a little more than a month after he worked out for the team.

At the time, Eagles Coach Chip Kelly presented the workout as simply a way to find out more about Tebow.

"I've always been a fan of Tim," Kelly told NFL.com on March 23. "We bring in a lot of players for private workouts, it's just he's the one that everyone keeps talking about.

"It's getting an exposure to a player so that when you have to make a decision and say 'Hey, what are we going to do now?' You say, 'I don't know anything about these players. Let's bring them in and work them out,' and it may be too late at that point in time. So all we're doing is just doing our homework."

Tebow's signing with the Eagles was first reported by Fox's Jay Glazer and later confirmed to The Times' by Tebow's throwing coach, Tom House.

Tebow was used sparingly by the New York Jets in 2012, and was cut by New England in its 2013 training camp. Since December 2013, he has been working as a college football analyst for ESPN.

Last month, Philadelphia shook up its quarterback depth chart by trading Nick Foles to St. Louis for Sam Bradford.

Staff writer Sam Farmer contributed to this report.
