Tim Tebow goes hitless in Mets' only spring appearance in Central Florida

Tim Tebow went to Disney World on Wednesday.

The former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback and two-time national champion at Florida was not there to enjoy the theme parks, though. He appeared in the New York Mets' game against the Atlanta Braves at Champion Stadium, going hitless in two at-bats.

The Mets scored three runs in the ninth inning and won, 6-4.

Tebow, a left-handed hitter, entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the fifth inning and flied out to center field against Braves pitching prospect Kolby Allard, a lefty. He remained in the lineup as the Mets' designated hitter and grounded into a double play against veteran left-hander Jesse Biddle.

Tebow is hitless in four at-bats, including one strikeout, during spring training. Wednesday's game was the Mets' only exhibition visit to Central Florida.

Tebow, 30, is in his second spring training with the Mets after giving professional baseball a try. He batted a combined .226 with eight home runs and 52 RBIs in 126 games with the Class A Columbia (S.C.) Fireflies and St. Lucie Mets last season.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson recently predicted Tebow, an outfielder, will play in the major leagues.
