Tim Sherwood left red-faced as Roberto Firmino makes him look foolish on live TV

Tim Sherwood was embarrassed by Roberto Firmino on live TV as the striker scored against Tottenham to send Liverpool top of the Premier League.

Sherwood said he was "not too worried" as Andy Robertson lined up a corner in the 90th minute of Wednesday's clash at Anfield.

The former Spurs star said, "I'm not sure anybody can get their head on the first ball for Liverpool" - and at that moment Firmino planted his head on it to fire home the winner.

Sherwood was watching the match as a pundit in the Amazon Prime studios.

And as Robertson swung in the last-gasp set-piece, the ex-England midfielder said: "I'm not too worried about this corner - it might come back to bite me.

"I think Tottenham have the dominance in the air. I'm not sure anybody can get their head on the first ball for Liverpool..."

As Firmino rose above the Tottenham defence to head the Reds to victory, Sherwood hastily added: "Apart from that man there."

"Oh my goodness! Wow! What a header!" he went on to say amid the sound of laughter from his colleagues in the studio.

And his badly timed pearl of wisdom sent Twitter into meltdown, with one Liverpool fan saying: "Bloody love this - Tim Sherwood getting it wonderfully wrong live on tv."

Another said: "Help I’ve watched it on loop for a few minutes, cant stop, and I’m still laughing so hard I have tears in my eyes."

"Tim sherwood went full Steve mclaren ... never go full mclaren Tim", wrote another, referencing McClaren's reaction to England's Euro 2016 exit to Iceland where he described their reaction as 'perfect' right before Kolbeinn Sigthorsson put Iceland 2-1 up.

Another supporter joked: "If Liverpool win the league then Tim Sherwood should get a medal for this absolute jinx he’s pulled on Tottenham!"

And another said: "Tactics Tim is always full value for a comeuppance."

Jurgen Klopp's side went three points clear at the top following their win over Spurs, and travel to face Crystal Palace on Saturday as they bid to extend their lead.
