'Tim Sherwood!' - Fans noticed what Jose Mourinho did in his first Spurs press conference

The Jose Mourinho era is underway at Tottenham Hotspur but fans of Spurs and their rivals could not help but notice what the Portuguese was wearing in his first press conference as head coach.

After having replaced Mauricio Pochettino in the dugout, the former Chelsea, Inter, Manchester United and Real Madrid boss met with the media ahead of his match in charge against West Ham.

However, while the three-time Premier League winner may have started by paying tribute to his predeccesor, his outfit had suppoters thinking back to another Tottenham boss of the recent past.

Prior to Pochettino's arrival in 2014, Tim Sherwood was the man in the hotseat at White Hart Lane - a head coach known for his choice of outfits on the touchline as much as anything else.

The ex-captain became an icon of the gilet, a sleeveless vest that can be worn over jumpers, shirts and other items of clothing.

Twitter reacts to Jose Mourinho becoming new Spurs manager

Some people call them life preservers, after their resemblance to what is used to keep people afloat at sea.

When Mourinho walked into his press conference wearing one, the comparisons soon followed.

Sherwood took over responsibilities managing the Tottenham first team in December 2013 after the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas.

He had initially returned to the club under Harry Redknapp in October 2008 and built an impressive reputation working with the youth teams.

After making a positive impact as a caretaker manager, there was even talk that he could be installed in the position permanently. Chairman Daniel Levy opted to give him the season. By May 2014 he was sacked to make way for Pochettino.

Sherwood famously once boasted of having the best win ratio of any Spurs manager, and is still remembered by some fans as a figure of fun.

Others feel he deserved more time in the job, especially given his ties to the academy and players such as Harry Kane.

In Mourinho's sartorial choices at least, he continutes to influence Tottenham Hotspur to this day.
