Tim Peake tells Edinburgh woman his favourite food in space after chance encounter

An Edinburgh woman asked astronaut Tim Peake what was his favourite food in space this week after a chance encounter.

Local woman, Tania Pramschufer, went along to the Usher Hall on November 11 to see European Space Agency astronaut Tim Peak’s My Journey to Space tour.

Tania took her four grandchildren along to the show but they had just left with their parents when she spotted people mulling about outside the buildings.

She went over to see if Tim was around and remembered something one of her grandchildren, Liam, had said to her earlier in the night.

Tania explained: “My grandkids had just gone in the car and I had just waved them off and one of them, Liam, had said earlier ‘if I could ask him one question it would be what did he like to eat in space?’

“So I just happened to notice that at the back of the Usher Hall there was a small group of people gathering and I just went over and then out he came. He was really, really friendly and he didn’t have to come over.

“But he did and he was really chatty and was really quite happy to speak and answer questions. He was just really nice and the actual show was just absolutely brilliant.”

“There were two other people, on one side of me there was a lady with a little girl, and someone on the other side, but there wasn’t a great big crowd. He had no security with him or anything and must have just come over because someone shouted or something.”

Tania took the plunge and asked Liam’s question and Tim was happy to oblige.

Tim said: “My favourite food in space? Yeah, well every Sunday morning we had enough for one pancake. These things called Maple Muffin Pancakes - delicious, absolutely delicious! Soaked in maple syrup, completely unhealthy but very, very nice."

The My Journey to Space tour visited the Usher Hall on November 11 and has a few more dates left this year and carries on again at various sites across the UK next year.

Tania says it is a wonderful occasion and Tim’s talk was very informative and inspiring.

She continued: “The show was really great. He made it very personal and as much about his personal feelings as the experiments and all the aspects of the actual mission.

“There weren’t that many kids but my grandkids absolutely loved it.

“He was up there for six months and was orbiting 90 times a day and he showed us all these images, and spoke about how he started out. He had no wealthy background and came from a really humble background but knew from a very young age that he wanted to fly.

“His message to young people is that if you really want to do something and work hard at it then you can get there.”
