Tim Peake shares stunning video of lightning storms from space

Tim Peake, Britain’s first ESA astronaut, has shared a stunning video of what lightning storms look like from space.

Posting the footage to Twitter, the former Army officer commented ‘Amazing how much lightning can strike our planet in a short time’.

The timelapse shows many flashes of light appearing above the skiws, particularly over an area of very dense cloud.

The video was filmed as the International Space Station flew over North Africa and Turkey as it made its way towards Russia.

Mr Peake made his journey to the ISS in December of last year, becoming the seventh UK-born person in space.

His first spacewalk occurred on January 15, only for it to be cut short after a colleague reported water in his helmet.
