Tim Krul urges in-demand Norwich starlets to stay and play in Premier League

Tim Krul expects Norwich's title-winning kids to get “head-turning big-money” offers this summer from the Premier League's top clubs.

But the veteran former Newcastle star says he is will personally sit down the Canaries' youngsters and urge them to stay for their own good.

Keeper Krul,31, is the only regular in Daniel Farke's starting XI with Premier League experience.

He has watched in awe as full-backs Max Aarons, 19, and Jamal Lewis, 21, have shone this term for the table-toppers.

English U20 international Ben Godfrey, 21, has also impressed in central defence.

While attacking talisman Emiliano Buendia,22, is so vital, Norwich haven't won once in the League this term without the Argentine.

But Tottenham are keen on Aarons and Godfrey has been linked with a host of top clubs, including Manchester United .

Krul admitted: “We all know when the big money is going to be offered, heads are going to get turned.

“But if Manchester United come in at 19 or 20 years old, there is no point sitting on the bench.

“They have to play. I will tell them. The money will come to these lads.

“When you look at how well they have done this year, some of them were in the U23s last year and no-one knew about them.

“Now they are massively sought after talent and rightly so. Every credit being thrown at them, they deserve.

“But what a chance for them to play week in week out if they stay. I can't wait to see them on the big stage next year.

“Max Aarons is 19 now, can you imagine to have won the Championship and have a year behind him in the Premier League, that is more important than anything.”

Krul has played every single minute in the League this term for the Canaries.

Now he is relishing another crack at the top-flight after playing there previously in his spell at Newcastle from 2006-2017.

But he admitted: “It is going to be hard for sure. We will have to yell at each other. You need mental strength.

“The young ones haven't really come under the negative pressure of losing maybe two or three in a row.

“That is going to be all new to them and that's when you have to be confident and believe in your own qualities.

“It is going to be hard graft. I have seen both sides of the table.

“I have finished fifth with Newcastle and been four points off the Champions League in 2011/12 but also had relegation battles.

“Even when we finished fifth we lost 4-0 at Wigan and then beat Chelsea away 2-0.

“It is such a crazy league. You have to take it by the throat and be ready for what ever gets thrown at you.”

Krul won the Championship previously with Newcastle in 2010.

But he insisted: “This feels the best - even after coming fifth in the Premier League.

“I lifted a trophy with Newcastle as champions but I didn't play every second so it is a different feeling. It feels definitely better.”
