Tim Krul's penalty shootout trick which cost Tottenham a potential FA Cup tie vs Man United

Tim Krul was the hero for Norwich City against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.

The Dutchman saved two of Spurs' five penalties in the shootout as the Premier League's bottom side eliminated the north London outfit from the FA Cup at the fifth round stage.

As a result, the Canaries will face the winners of the Derby County vs Manchester United in the quarter-final.

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho's side must lick their wounds and prepare for Saturday's clash against Burnley which will have huge implications on their hopes of a top-four finish this season.

'Every one of us would do': Mourinho responds to Dier confrontation

Then it's onto Germany for a Champions League round of 16 second leg tie against RB Leipzig as they look to overturn a 1-0 deficit.

Repeating the heroics of last season's semi-final against Ajax is what's needed for the Lilywhites to keep up their hopes of winning a piece of sliverware this season.

At one point against Norwich they were on course for the FA Cup quarter-final.

Jan Vertonghen's brilliant header broke the deadlock in the first-half and the hosts failed to push on from there and a mistake from Michel Vorm - a surprise starter at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - sent the game into extra-time.

The teams couldn't be separated after an extra 30 minutes which meant penalties were required to settle the tie.

And that's were Krul came into his own.

As pointed out by @RouteOneFootyy on Twitter, Krul wrote down where every Spurs player takes their penalties on his water bottle!

That expertise ultimately paid off.

The Dutchman - once subbed on for penalties at a World Cup - was the difference between the two teams.

He saved from Troy Parrott and Gedson Fernandes to book Norwich's place among the last eight in the FA Cup at the expense of Tottenham.
