Tim Krul's message to Newcastle United fans after St James' Park return

Former Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul has sent a special message to the Magpies' fans following his St James' Park return.

Dutchman Krul kept a clean sheet as United were frustrated by Norwich City on Saturday, with Krul making two good stops to deny firstly Joelinton and then Allan Saint-Maximin.

It was his opposite number Martin Dubravka who was the busier of the two, however, with United's No 1 making several vital saves to earn his side a point.

Krul made 184 appearances for the Magpies after making his debut against Palermo in the UEFA Cup in 2006, but after suffering a knee injury on international duty in 2015, he struggled to get back into the side under Rafa Benitez.

Loan spells at Ajax and Brighton followed before a move to Norwich, where he has established himself as their No 1.

But Tyneside will always hold fond memories for the 31-year-old, and he took to Instagram to post a message to the United fans.

"A big thank you to all the Geordies today for the amazing reception before the game and even more so after. St James’ Park will always be a special place for me and my family."

After the game, Krul told Norwich's The Pink Un: "It felt more like a proper welcome and send-off really, because the way I left was horrible and it should not have been like that.

"With the fans, their reception and at the end, they felt the same.

"It's massive, 12 years, I came here as a 17-year-old boy. My wife is from here, my little girl was born here so it's special.

"Had some highs and lows here. It's quite special to be loved by two clubs - and two clubs that I really love as well.

"Not to be too soppy about it, but it is special."
