Tim Krul reveals the reason he left Newcastle United and why he still wants them to well

Tim Krul has revealed he never wanted to leave Newcastle United.

The Dutchman was told to find a new club and signed for Brighton a couple of seasons ago before joining Norwich where he has reestablished himself as a top-flight goalie.

Krul played his part in Norwich's 3-1 win over Newcastle before telling the Chronicle: "I had a bad injury and Rafa came in.

"He wanted to get his own goalkeeper.

"I probably would have still been at Newcastle now had it not been for that.

"I have never shied away from the fact I love the place and I always will.

"Again, though, I have moved on and found an amazing club here at Norwich.

Tim Krul waves to the fans after Norwich's win over his old side Newcastle (Newcastle Chronicle)

"It is similar to Newcastle in the way people are friendly and desperate to help you.

"I fell on my feet and I'm lucky to find this club.

"To get back to the Prem has been hard graft as it's been three or four years. I am really proud."

Krul applauded the United faithful at the end and looked emotional following the win for the Canaries.

He said: "It is mixed emotions for me.

"I want Newcastle to do well but at Norwich we need points.

"We played so well and everything came off."

With 36 games left to play this fixture couldn't really be dubbed a relegation battle, but Krul feels that it could be important in the long run.

He added: "Yes, especially with these new rules that are coming in.

"The head to head is important now.

"When you see Liverpool and Chelsea in your first three games you know you need wins.

"You need points where you can get them.

"This win over Newcastle takes the pressure off us at Norwich. Chelsea for us will be tough."
