Tim Boyle extends Packers lead with TD passes to J’Mon Moore, Allen Lazard

A pair of touchdown passes from quarterback Tim Boyle has the Green Bay Packers running away with a win in the second half of the preseason opener against the Houston Texans.

Boyle, the team’s No. 3 quarterback entering Thursday night, hit J’Mon Moore for a 1-yard score and then found Allen Lazard for a 27-yard touchdown to give the Packers a 28-10 lead in the third quarter.

Boyle’s first touchdown pass came off a playaction fake on third down. His perfectly-placed throw on the run to the left was hauled in by Moore for the score:

It was a big moment for Moore, who missed one pass after slipping down and dropped two other passes earlier in the game. He’s fighting for a roster spot, and the Packers will hope the touchdown catch can reboot his confidence.

A drive later, Boyle delivered this perfect throw to Lazard, who beat rookie Lonnie Johnson to the inside to make the leaping catch in the end zone:

Lazard, the 6-5 receiver, looked like a power forward going up for a rebound on the touchdown. The former Iowa State star was signed by the Packers late last season.

Johnson was the cornerback who popped rookie tight end Jace Sternberger during the joint practice on Monday.

Over two drives in the third quarter, Boyle completed 3-of-5 passes for 40 yards and two scores.

After three quarters, Boyle and DeShone Kizer have completed 11 passes for 142 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions. Their combined passer rating is 125.5.
