Thursday's recap: White Sox 8, Rangers 2; Royals 9, White Sox 2

March 11--Jerry Sands and Tyler Saladino homered to drive the White Sox to an 8-2 victory over the Rangers in a split-squad game in Surprise, Ariz., on Thursday. In a game at Camelback Ranch, the Royals scored seven seventh-inning runs off Sox pitchers Will Lamb and Josh Wall to win it 9-2.

At the plate

Against the Rangers, Avisail Garcia was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, bringing his spring batting average to .529. Matt Davidson and Brett Lawrie each hit their second homers of the spring against the Royals.

On the mound

In his first Cactus League start, Jose Quintana gave up two earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings to earn the victory against the Rangers.

In the field

The Sox may have completed a triple play against the Royals, but the split squads also combined for four errors, and that didn't include misplays in left-center field that resulted in a Royals inside-the-park home run.

Key number

16: Homers from Sox players over nine games this spring.

The quote

"It was nice to play in a real game. I was excited to face good hitters on a good team. That's good for working on your pitches. The key for me is to keep the ball down. ... I tried to throw to both sides of the plate and work with my strengths. I was working with my changeup too." -- Quintana
