MINNEAPOLIS — Shortstop Tim Anderson was scratched from the lineup a second consecutive day, and then center fielder Leury Garcia joined him on the bench for the White Sox’ series final Sunday against the Twins.
Anderson has a sore right wrist and Garcia a sore right (throwing shoulder).
Anderson’s wrist soreness stems from an at-bat against Twins righty Jose Berrios, on an inside pitch which caught part of Anderson’s hand, manager Rick Renteria said. Anderson had a butterfly bandage on his right hand below a knuckle under the index finger and a wrap on right wrist.
“The ball hit him (on the hand), caused some bruising,” Renteria said. “Bruising is blood, blood travels, probably got into the wrist causing irritation.”
Before he was taken out of the lineup Anderson indicated he was ready to play. He was scratched after testing it in the batting cage.
Jose Rondon played shortstop a second day and Ryan Cordell was added to the lineup in right field with Charlie Tilson playing center and leading off.
Losing two of their most productive hitters comes at a tough time for the Sox (23-28), who are trying to avoid a series sweep against major leagues’ winningest team. The Twins are 35-16 and have won six in a row against the Sox.
