Tillicoultry electronic bus display wrecked 'within weeks' as yobs smash screen

A vital electronic bus display has been left smashed by yobs in Tillicoultry just weeks after being installed.

The unit, which provides live information for passengers waiting at the village’s bus stance about services set to come in, was left damaged with the glass screen cracked .

An initial repair was carried out with cardboard placed over the screen following the incident last week - but one local passenger has told the Observer that the cardboard had been partially ripped off earlier this week.

The passenger said: “It’s when you see the damage that it sinks in about all of the work that has gone into the board, from sighting the steel post in the ground to cutting a track in the pavement for the internet connection.

“It’s just such a shame for all that work to have gone into it, only for someone to come along and smash it - it has only been up for about a week or so.

“I was thrilled to bits with it [the screen] because it makes it so helpful for people to know exactly when buses are coming and the operator can provide information to people waiting about if buses are arriving late.

A Clackmannanshire Council spokesperson said the display has now been removed for repairs.

They said: “The display was removed from site on Tuesday and will be returned to the factory.

“Once this is done, the display will be assessed for the extent of the damage and the service team will be in touch with details of repair of the display. CCTV was installed at the location yesterday.”
