TikTok video perfectly explains why Dublin postcodes are so confusing

Dublin postcodes are a mystery that we don't think we will ever solve.

Should Dublin 13 be beside Dublin 15? Probably. Is it? No, it most certainly is not.

The odd numbers in the north and even numbers in the south makes some kind of sense, until you realise that the odd numbers only go up to 17 and the evens up to 24. Where are 19, 21 and 23? Next time a tourist is annoying you, send them there.

Oh, and of course there is the whole thing of Dublin 8 pouring into the northside.

One individual on TikTok sums it up perfectly in a short video. Irish Comedian Ails McCarthy explained why the Dublin postcodes make very little sense at all.

She says, "Some people say the Irish are very indirect and I think I know why."

She then goes on to perform a gas sketch perfectly explaining the issues with the Dublin postal codes system, saying, "All the odd numbers are on the northside of the city and all the even numbers on the south. Except number 20. Number 20 is on the north.

"8 is beside 2 and 10 is actually beside 20. 6 has a 'W' because that's west of Dublin 6.

"Do all the other west parts have a W as well? For some reason, no."

Upon researching, it turns out that Dublin 6W was originally going to be labelled Dublin 26, but there were objections due to the fact that higher numbers were usually given to less affluent areas.

"The north got it wrong as well. They have 11, 13, 15 going whatever way. But there's like a 9 in between as well.

"The northside numbers go up as far as 17 and the southside numbers go up as far as 24, even though there is no 23, 21 or 19."

Perfectly not confusing, right?
