TikTok video from prison goes viral as probe launched into Mountjoy inmate’s ‘Jay-Z skit’

A TikTok video from a prison has gone viral as a probe has been launched into the Mountjoy inmate’s “Jay-Z skit”.

The footage with over 700,000 views seems to have been filmed inside the prison in Dublin.

The short clip was uploaded to Tik Tok yesterday morning and has gained attention on the “For You” page.

It shows a small room with a bed, mouldy roof and a Conor McGregor poster on the door while a man sings “in Mountjoy” to the tune of “New York” by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ Empire State of Mind.

Viewers were shocked to see that a prisoner had a phone.

One user commented: “That’s your Ma’s box room, not Mountjoy.”

Another said: “Ye can’t have phones in prison.”

A third posted: “I thought this was literally just an apartment in New York.”

Someone else asked: “How do you have a phone?

Another person said: “Reminds me of the time my dad had a phone in Wheatfield and had to stay four extra months.”

A spokesperson from the Irish Prisons press office told Dublin Live: “In relation to your query below, preventing the access of contraband (including mobile phones) in prisons will always remain a high priority for the Irish Prison Service.

“The Irish Prison Service does not comment on individual prisoner cases but can confirm it is aware of a video relating to Mountjoy Prison circulating on social media.”
