A TikTokker has claimed that her whole life ‘has been a lie’ after discovering that a popular brand of ‘cream’ is not actually the product she thought it was.
Sara Abdul asked her followers how old they were when they found out that ‘Elmlea double’ was not actually double cream.
She brandished the front of the carton and zoomed in on one particularly important piece of information, which reveals that it is an ‘alternative to cream ’.
In closer inspection, Sara discovered that it is a ‘blend of buttermilk and vegetable oils’.
Sara said: “How old were you when you found out that this is not actually double cream? It’s an alternative to cream! What the heck?
“It’s actually a blend of buttermilk and vegetable oils - I’m so shocked.”
And she clearly wasn’t the only one who was blown away by the finding - hundreds of punters commented to express their surprise at the truth behind the product.
Some have even claimed that it has unlocked the mystery behind countless failed bakes over the years.
One person wrote: “That’s why my cheesecake didn’t set!!”
Another said: “I really can’t believe I’ve not spotted this and I love double cream.”
One other commented: “I was wondering this recently because the expiry date was so far away.”
Elmlea says that its product benefits from a longer shelf life when compared to the real deal.
A description of the double ‘cream’ on the firm’s website reads: “Elmlea stays fresher for longer, over double the shelf life of dairy cream (before and after opening).
“Elmlea Double is our multipurpose cream alternative - whip it up for desserts, pour over pudding or stir in to sauces or pasta to further enrich your cooking.”
