Two best friends from Co Down have gained 45,000 new TikTok followers after setting the account up "for a bit of craic".
Hannah Leavy and Marc McDonnell, from Downpatrick, are more commonly known as Heather and Maggie from DownpatrickLadies on TikTok.
The pair, aged 28 and 20, set up their account during lockdown in January and have been growing their page ever since.
Their light-hearted and witty humour through the characters of Heather and Maggie, has attracted over 653,000 likes with thousands watching their videos each day.
Speaking to Belfast Live, 28-year-old Hannah said: "I first learnt about TikTok during the first lockdown and my first reaction was 'this is a good laugh and very addictive'. I then suggested to Marc that we make Downpatrick Ladies one night and it's gone from there.
"I had my own account before but thought it would be a bit of craic to make an account for both of us and set up Downpatrick Ladies just for fun.
"Our TikTok videos would be about everyday life we do try to make them as real as possible and like to use our own content as much as we can. We try and make our TikTok as funny as we can possibly make it and the main style or theme of the videos we create is comedy.
"We opened the account around the end of January and posted a few videos here and there, then at around the start of March time we started posting more regularly. It was about May when the account sort of just blew up and we went from having 10k followers to the 45k followers very quickly. We don’t really think about how much followers we have it’s just a bit weird when we are out in public and people would say to us about the videos that’s when you realise how many people are actually watching."
Marc said most people within their community have been supporting them and finding their content entertaining.
"DownpatrickLadies is something we use to have a laugh and hope that people watching are enjoying the videos. We don’t really have any favourite TikTokers as there’s a lot of funny people on it but we would watch a lot of comedy content as that what we enjoy.
"For anyone that’s nervous or anxious about joining TikTok just go for it don’t be worried about what others will think. Life's too short as Heather and Maggie would say, life’s all about having fun."
