TikTok star and son of snooker legend John Higgins aims to create Still Game-style sitcom

TikTok star and the son of four-time world champion snooker player John Higgins has spoken about his dreams of creating a Still Game-style sitcom as he awaits the release of their BBC project.

Pierce Higgins and his partner in comedy, Lewis Reid, have racked up over 3.8 million likes on the social media platform after launching their Jamaica Street account in November 2021.

The pair started the now 132k followed page after splitting ties with college chum Tara Harcombe, and were recently commissioned by the BBC to produce two short videos.

The Bothwell-based funnyman, Pierce, is hopeful that the opportunity to work with the BBC could be the start of something big.

He said: “We got an opportunity to do some videos for BBC shorts. We wrote around four to six pitches, and the BBC chose two to fund.

“They’re great sketches, and they're both filmed, but we are just waiting for them to come out.

“We were really excited because it might be the start of something, or it might not, but it gives us an opportunity to really showcase our skills rather than just a conversation about a cappuccino.

“Our aim is to make a sitcom. Not to big ourselves up, but if you look at the great Scottish comedies like Still Game, Chewin the Fat and Burnistoun, there’s nothing anymore.

“It’s like Scottish comedy is catered to American tourists and how weird and whimsical Scottish people are, rather than daily life.

“We’d quite like to make a show one day, and if it is a percentage of how good Still Game is, then we will be doing something right.

"It’s all about bringing something back to the people because it’s all baws right now.”

The pair have amassed millions of views across TikTok, so much so that Irn-Bru sponsored them.

Pierce added: “The views don’t make any sense to us. We put up videos, and we don’t know how it gets as many views as it does.

"We just make videos that we think are funny. We don’t put them out with a view count in mind, it’s just to make people laugh.

“It’s mental that people like our videos that much that we are getting sponsorships off Irn Bru and chances at the BBC.”
