TikTok set to move into €420 million data centre home in Clondalkin

TikTok are set to move into a brand new €420 million data centre home in Clondalkin.

The Chinese social media giant has chosen the new Echelon data centre in West Dublin for its new European data home, according to the Sunday Business Post.

The 35-acre site should be fully operational by the end of 2021.

The company announced plans to make Ireland its home for European videos, messages, and other data last August.

The company already have offices at the Grand Canal Dock and a transparency centre located in the capital, and currently employ over 1,200 people in Ireland.

Several global tech giants including Facebook, Twitter and Google base their European operations in Dublin, while Intel's is just across the Kildare border in Leixlip.

Speaking of TikTok’s move into Ireland in August 2020, Theo Bertram, the app’s director of public policy for Europe, told the BBC that “it’s a significant investment".

He added: “It’s a symbol of our long-term commitment to Europe and I think that’s an important message for our users and our creators at this time.”
