TikTok's viral trend of stacking milk crates in a pyramid has been banned by the app after being branded as dangerous.

The trend which proved a big hit on the app saw people stacking crates in a pyramid shape and attempting to climb them like stairs.

Inevitably many of the videos show people falling as the pyramid tumbles beneath them.

The milk crate challenged got millions of views but TikTok is now actively taking down videos and blocking searches for 'milk crate challenge'.

A spokesperson for the platform said in a statement: "TikTok prohibits content that promotes or glorifies dangerous acts, and we remove videos and redirect searches to our Community Guidelines to discourage such content.

"We encourage everyone to exercise caution in their behaviour whether online or off."

It comes after numerous warnings from health professionals about the trend's inherent risk.

Those now searching for the hashtag are met with a message saying "No results found -This phrase may be associated with behaviour or content that violates our guidelines.
