TikTok Has Banned The Milk Crate Challenge Bc Turns Out Falling Off Crates Is Pretty Fkn Brutal

TikTok has now banned the milk crate challenge on the platform, because it’s fucking dumb (my words, not theirs).

If you’ve had the displeasure of seeing people attempt the milk crate challenge on your FYP, then you’ll know it involves participants walking up either side of a milk crate pyramid until it inevitably collapses.

Ouch.

The platform have now issued a statement, calling the challenge “dangerous”, because well, it is.

“TikTok prohibits content that promotes or glorifies dangerous acts, and we remove videos and redirect searches to our Community Guidelines to discourage such content. We encourage everyone to exercise caution in their behaviour whether online or off,” TikTok wrote in a statement.

If you look up the #milkcratechallenge hashtag on TikTok, you will now be redirected to a message that reads:

“This phrase may be associated with behaviour or content that violates our guidelines. Promoting a safe and positive experience is TikTok’s top priority. For more information, we invite you to review our Community Guidelines.”

It’s dangerous to say the least, especially in a country like America, where there’s no universal healthcare.

“Gravity always wins,” paediatric orthopaedic surgeon George Gantsoudes told the Los Angeles Times.

“So when people accelerate toward the Earth at awkward angles, you are at risk for fractures and dislocations of various types. Spinal injuries are entirely possible.”

People on Twitter also pointed out that the healthcare system is stretched enough because of COVID, and TikTokers putting themselves in harms way like that, just isn’t helping.

The milk crate challenge really is the true meaning of: Please don’t try this at home.
