TikTok doctor shares hack hay fever remedy hacks as pollen count increases

Although the summer months can mean the welcoming return of warmer weather, beer gardens and trips to the beach, these activities can be tainted with irritated eyes, a runny nose and scratchy throat.

Just as winter is 'sweater weather'- summer is hay fever season.

Edinburgh locals have been suffering with bad hay fever symptoms this year, with the Met Office's daily pollen forecast showing medium to high levels this week.

And in even worse news, tissues at the ready, Wednesday 23rd is marked as 'high' in Edinburgh.

So if your sinuses and eyes feel like they're being attacked by pollen, a doctor has shared his three top hacks to ease the symptoms so you can go out and enjoy the summer weather sniffle-free.

Although, a word of caution - you might not enjoy the last one.

Dr Karan Raj has attracted millions of fans on TikTok with his advice and informative videos, and recently answered a question from a viewer who was desperate to know how to overcome the symptoms as they were "driving her crazy", The Mirror reported.

Another fan said: "Does anyone find this year especially their hay fever is really bad? I usually have it quite mild but this year I'm really suffering."

Listing his favourite hacks, the doctor advised: "Put Vaseline or coconut oil around your nostrils. This traps the pollen and stops it getting into your airways and sensitive tissues.

"If you come in from outside, have a shower, wash your hair and change your clothes. There will be lots of hidden pollen on your hair, body parts and clothes that you need to get rid of.

"Finally, limit alcohol intake. Alcohol can increase histamine levels in your body - this is a chemical which increases inflammation and allergy type symptoms. Stick to the virgin mojito."

A second suggested: "Also try chewing on raw ginger! My aunt taught that to me and it really does help in 5-10 mins."

And another joked: "No alcohol!? Like hay fever isn't making me miserable enough already."
