A TikTok dermatologist has warned his followers not to try a DIY mole removal trend currently circulating on the video-sharing app.
Dr Dustin Portela, from Idaho in the US, regularly shares his experience and skincare knowledge with his 1.9 million followers on the site.
In one of his most recent clips, which has racked up over 1.3 million views and 42,000 likes, the doctor reacted to a video of a barber using a pore vacuum to remove someone's mole.
He explains he doesn’t know why barbers try to remove moles and claims that using a pore vacuum to remove a mole is completely ineffective.
Dr Dustin goes on to tell his viewers that this is also a really bad idea.
"Do I need to say it? Don’t try this at home," the caption to the clip reads.
In the comments, many agreed with the doctor, while others shared their non-professional mole removal experiences.
"I had a barber remove a mole on my neck with his clippers, and I thought I would bleed out," one said.
"He said ‘I’ll fix it’ then proceeded to pack baby powder."
Another user added: “I used to be a barber and the amount of things clients asked me to do and I had to respond ‘I cut hair, that’s for a doctor,’” followed by a face palm emoji.
"My husband has a mole in the same place and I accidentally clipped it off using the clippers to give him a skin fade,” wrote someone else.
Others saw a funny side to the video, with one viewer commenting: “Will pore removers help remove all the red flags from the guy I’m dating?” followed by three red flag emojis.
Meanwhile, another doctor also joined the conversation with a crafty pin, commenting: “Pore decision here,” to which Dr Dustin responded, “I see what you did there".
The hashtag #moleremoval on TikTok has over 253 million views so far.
