A pair of wannabe TikTok stars have been fined by police for flouting coronavirus restrictions by travelling to Scotland to test drive cars.
Officers in Essex stopped the two men who had travelled at least 700 miles from their homes in Southend-on-Sea earlier this week.
When questioned about the nature of their journey, the duo, aged 38 and 35, told police they were making driving videos for their followers on the popular social media app.
The two men were fined at least £200 and blasted by officers for their reckless actions which go against the strict ‘stay at home’ message.
A spokesperson for Essex Police said: “Attracting followers on social media is very important to some people but a 38-year-old man from Southend and his 35-year-old friend attracted the attention of our officers after travelling all the way to Scotland and back to test drive cars.
“Their excuse? They were making videos for TikTok.
“If you are thinking about organising a social gathering or making a non-essential journey, please reconsider, stay safe and stop the unnecessary spread of Covid-19.”
