Tik Tok users issue warning on viral kitchen cleaning hack which can cost thousands

An urgent warning has been issued over a viral Tik Tok trick which claims to clean your sink.

Homeowners have now warned the viral cleaning tip could cost people thousands.

A woman has shown the grime hidden beneath her plughole, telling Tik Tok fans: "I thought my drain was clean until I opened it up", Birmingham Live reports.

She then placed the plug inside a bowl, scrubbed it with bicarbonate of soda, washing up liquid and water.

Using boiling water she rinsed it before scrubbing it with a toothbrush while she wore marigold rubber gloves.

But despite well over 50,000 views and thousands upon thousands of comments to boot, Tik Tok users had warnings.

"But please people...when you do this, remember to put the SEALING back in too to avoid water damages," one wrote.

"Might wanna pop something under the pipes so you don't end up with the water leaking into your cabinet while you do this," a second said.

"My cabinets... I tried," added another.

Others warned that you risk flooding your kitchen if not careful.

The viral trick was initially shared by @carolina.mccauley.

And, to be fair to the homeowner, the tip went down well in some quarters.

One called it a "game changer" while a second commented: "Ah this is brilliant."

"I'll be doing this now," said another.

And another joked they would be heading to scrub theirs at 3.30am.
