Tigers will make up games against Cardinals in pair of doubleheaders

DETROIT _ While the Detroit Tigers had most of the week off, thanks to a postponement of their home-and-home series with the St. Louis Cardinals, Major League Baseball's schedule-makers were hard at work.

The results _ barring any further postponements _ came out Thursday as MLB announced the rescheduled dates for the nearly two dozen games postponed in the past two weeks due to COVID-19 breakouts.

Monday-Thursday's Tigers/Cardinals series, which at one point had been turned into a four-game series at Comerica Park with a doubleheader in the middle and both teams getting home-field advantage for two games, has been split into two doubleheaders in August and September. (Each doubleheader will feature two games of seven innings, per MLB's new rule adopted last week.)

The Tigers will host the first double-dip on Aug. 13 at 1:10 p.m., erasing a planned off-day between home series against the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Indians.

Then, on Sept. 10, the Tigers will visit the Cardinals in Busch Stadium for a doubleheader beginning at 2:10 p.m. That series takes up an off-day between the Tigers' two-game series at home against the Milwaukee Brewers and a three-game series against the White Sox in Chicago. To allow for travel time, the Tigers' Sept. 9 series finale against the Brewers has been moved from 7:10 p.m. to 1:10 p.m.

The Tigers return to action Friday at 7:05 p.m. on the road against the Pittsburgh Pirates. That game will be the first of 38 in 38 days, with the Tigers' only off-days in that span now set for Aug. 31 and Sept. 3, on either side of a two-game series against the Brewers in Milwaukee.
