Detroit Tigers right-hander Anibal Sanchez hit the 10-day disabled list on Friday with left hamstring tightness. Sanchez exited his last start on Wednesday night against the Texas Rangers early.
Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said the injury is similar to the one Sanchez sustained earlier in the season with Triple-A Toledo after getting hit in the hamstring with a comebacker.
"He said it feels just like that," Ausmus said. "I don't know if it's a strain necessarily."
The Tigers don't need a fifth starter until Aug. 26 against the Chicago White Sox.
Taking Sanchez's place on the 25-man roster is center fielder JaCoby Jones, called up from Triple-A Toledo.
Jones, 25, hit .137 (7 for 51) in 22 games with the Tigers earlier this season.
He was batting .243 with nine home runs in 89 games (346 at-bats) with the Mud Hens this year.
