PITTSBURGH _ The Detroit Tigers' game Tuesday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park has been postponed due to rain and will be made up Wednesday as a straight doubleheader, starting at 4:05 p.m. ET.
Jordan Zimmermann will pitch in Game 1. Matthew Boyd will get the ball in Game 2.
A white tarp covered the infield since reporters entered the stadium around 2 p.m. and there was a light rain falling most of the afternoon.
The Tigers are slated to play three game series at PNC Park, before heading to Baltimore for a three-game series against the Orioles.
The Tigers have had several games affected by weather already this season.
The Tigers and Pirates were supposed to open the season on March 29 at Comerica Park, but rain caused that game to be postponed. The Tigers went on to lose, 13-10, in 13 innings on March 30, but a game scheduled for March 31 was postponed due to rain and was made up as part of a split doubleheader on April 1. The Tigers lost the first game, 1-0, then the second game, 8-6.
The Tigers also had a game against the Kansas City Royals postponed on April 4 due to cold temperature and wind. That game was made up as part of a split doubleheader on Friday. The Tigers won the first game in 10 innings, 3-2, then lost the second game, 3-2.
Rain caused a game against the Yankees to be postponed on April 14. The teams were supposed to play a doubleheader on April 15, but both games were postponed due to inclement weather.
Those games have been rescheduled for a split doubleheader on June 4 at Comerica Park, 1:10 p.m. and 7:10 p.m.
