Tigers' Ian Kinsler fined for comments on umpire Angel Hernandez

What Ian Kinsler guessed might happen didn't come true.

During a lengthy conversation about his feelings for umpire Angel Hernandez on Tuesday afternoon in Arlington, Texas _ in which he suggested Hernandez should find a new occupation _ Kinsler said this.

"I'll get suspended and I'll sit out and he'll still be umpiring," Kinsler said. "That might be what happens."

Kinsler was not suspended for arguing balls and strikes before getting ejected on Monday night or for his comments about Hernandez the next day, which were wide-ranging about the umpire's ability and Major League Baseball's lack of accountability for their on-field arbiters.

He was fined, he said before Friday night's series opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers, but did not disclose the amount. He said he was not certain if he could appeal the fine.

Hernandez umpired second base for the Detroit Tigers' series finale against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night and extended a handshake to the veteran second baseman before the game.

"He's messing with baseball games, blatantly," Kinsler said on Tuesday. "I'm just saying that it's pretty obvious that he needs to stop ruining baseball games."
