Tigers' Cotchin in early end to AFL season

Richmond captain Trent Cotchin has been ruled out of the Tigers' AFL clash with Hawthorn. (AAP)

Richmond veteran Trent Cotchin's AFL season has ended early with the three-time premiership captain injuring his knee.

Cotchin has been ruled out of the Tigers' final home-and-away game against Hawthorn at the MCG.

The 31-year-old suffered a posterior ligament strain to his knee during the Tigers' 39-point loss against GWS on Friday night.

Mathematically, Richmond can still play finals, but the reigning premiers would have to rely on Essendon, West Coast and Fremantle all losing their final games and somehow make up almost 10 per cent on the Bombers.
