TORONTO _ A pair of home runs by Teoscar Hernandez doomed Anibal Sanchez in another poor start.
Sanchez gave up a two-run home run to Hernandez in the fourth inning. Hernandez added a three-run home run as part of a four-run fifth inning.
The Tigers went on to lose, 8-2, on Sunday at Rogers Centre.
Hernandez, 24, had not homered in his first six games for the Blue Jays. He hit four home runs in 41 games for the Astros in 2016. The Jays traded left-handed pitcher Francisco Liriano to the Astros for Hernandez and fellow outfielder Norichika Aoki on July 31.
The Tigers trailed 3-0 before Ian Kinsler hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning. It was Kinsler's 17th home run of the season. His first 16 home runs were solos. Dixon Machado had reached on a fielding error by shortstop Richard Urena before Kinsler homered to left-center off J.A. Happ.
Urena scored from first on a RBI single by Kendrys Morales in the first inning for the Jays. Hernandez hit a two-run home run to center for the first of his two home runs.
Hernandez scored in the eighth inning on a passed ball by James McCann. That put the Tigers behind, 8-2. Hernandez finished 3-for-4 with five RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Jays.
Sanchez allowed seven runs on a season-high 12 hits over 4 2/3 innings for the Tigers. He walked one and struck out five.
Sanchez has a 7.43 ERA this season in 24 games, including 13 starts. He suffered a right calf contusion after being hit a comebacker by leadoff hitter Whit Merrifield last Tuesday. Sanchez left the game after throwing just five pitches.
Sanchez allowed five runs on nine hits over six innings in a start against the Jays on July 16. The Tigers went on to win that game, 6-5.
Sanchez is 0-3 in four career starts at Rogers Centre. In those games, he's allowed 20 runs over 19 1/3 innings.
Happ allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits over six innings for the Jays. He walked two and struck out nine.
Nick Castellanos went 2-for-3 with a walk and has hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games for the Tigers.
