Tigers allow Mbye to look for new NRL deal

Former Wests Tigers captain Moses Mbye has been granted permission to speak to other NRL clubs as he seeks a new deal for 2022.

The ex-Queensland State of Origin star is contracted with the Tigers until the end of next season, and is one of the highest-paid players at the club.

However, since joining the Tigers at the start of 2018, the 27-year-old has struggled to nail down a regular starting position, switching from the halves to fullback and centre.

This season he is expected to spend the year on the bench as a utility interchange. He played just 30 minutes in Sunday's win over Newcastle.

On Wednesday night the Tigers confirmed they have given him permission to speak to rival clubs as he looks for a new deal from next year.

"Wests Tigers can confirm that, upon request from the player, Moses Mbye has been granted permission to discuss his playing future with other clubs from the 2022 NRL season," the Tigers said in a statement.

"Mbye, who is currently under contract at Wests Tigers until the end of 2022, has not asked for a request to be released from his contract.

"Moses has expressed his firm commitment to the club and its playing group for the 2021 season, with the request to discuss his playing future pertaining to his preference to secure a long-term deal elsewhere.

"Moses remains an integral part of the club's squad for the 2021 season."
