Tiger Woods will not play golf again in 2015, after undergoing back surgery for the second time in two years. The process, a microdiscectomy, is the same as the one he underwent in March 2014, to remove a small disc fragment that was pinching his nerve. The surgery took place in Utah last Wednesday and Woods was discharged from hospital the next day.
With golf entering its off-season and no further majors to be played this year, Woods will miss a number of minor tournaments and therefore the opportunity to rediscover some badly needed form. The 14-time major winner is expected to return to the PGA tour in early 2016.
In a statement on his website Woods said: “This is certainly disappointing but I’m a fighter. I’ve been told I can make a full recovery and I have no doubt that I will.”
Woods has struggled for form recently. He has failed to make the cut in four of his last five majors and last won one, the US Open, seven years ago.
