Tiger Woods is “grateful” and focused on his recovery from a serious SUV crash after officials determined the collision was caused by an “unsafe” driving speed.
The golf superstar was recently told that the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s investigation into the Feb. 23 crash in Los Angeles was “completed and closed,” he said Wednesday in a Twitter statement.
“I am so grateful to both of the good samaritans who came to assist me and called 911,” Woods’ statement reads. “I am also thankful to the LASD Deputies and LA Firefighter/Paramedics.”
Woods, 45, shared his statement shortly after the sheriff’s department held a news conference to release the findings of their investigation, with officials saying the athlete hit a median at 84 to 87 mph before striking a tree at 75 mph.
He was hospitalized at a trauma center following the crash, and required surgery after suffering multiple injuries to his right leg.
“I will continue to focus on my recovery and family, and thank everyone for the overwhelming support and encouragement I’ve received throughout this very difficult time,” Woods said Wednesday.
No citations were issued to Woods.
Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said Wednesday that the crash was caused by “driving at a speed unsafe for the road conditions and the inability to negotiate the curve of the roadway.”
