Tiger Woods reveals he had knee surgery, plans to return soon

The 2019 PGA Tour season will forever be remembered for Tiger Woods’ thrilling victory at Augusta National Golf Club, his first major win in more than a decade, but Woods couldn’t maintain his level of play as the year progressed, and the physical limitations of his 43-year-old body were evident as he missed the cut at two major championships and withdrew from a playoff event with an oblique strain and stiffness.

Woods was also apparently dealing with a knee issue during the season. On Tuesday, Woods announced that he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery to repair “minor cartilage damage,” and is currently recovering.

In the statement, Woods says he plans to return to the course in October at the ZOZO Championship, the PGA Tour’s first event in Japan. Woods announced his intention to play in Japan back in April.

Woods will also serve as the United States captain in the 2019 Presidents Cup in December. Woods has the ability to pick himself as a playing member of the team, but given the way he finished the season and his ongoing recovery, it would be somewhat shocking if he did.
