Paddy Power mock Tiger Woods with massive billboards reminding him of infamous crash

A bookmaker has marked the arrival of Tiger Woods on Irish soil by reminding him of the time he crashed his car into a fire hydrant.

One of the greatest golfers to ever play the game will be teeing up at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland on Thursday as The Open gets under way.

Instead of welcoming the game's biggest star with open arms, Paddy Power erected massive billboards referencing the infamous crash in Florida 2009.

Tiger smashed his Cadillac Escalade into a fire hydrant outside his mansion 10 years ago, which was the beginning of his fall from grace, both in his personal life and golf career.

After Woods was found bleeding in his car in the wake of the accident, amid rumours of furious row with his wife Elin, a series of extra marital affairs were soon exposed which led to the breakdown of his marriage.

Woods also soon began to suffer back problems which affected his game and he experienced a dramatic slump in form which led many to predict he would never be a top player again.

But the 43-year-old proved the doubters wrong when he claimed the Masters title at Augusta earlier this year to show he was finally back to his best.

To celebrate his return to form, Paddy Power cheekily planted a sign with a car smashed into it with the words, "Tiger's arrived. Hope his driving improves".

While a second billboard, just yards away, has a SUV shaped hole ripped through it.

The American superstar will be hoping to add another Major to his list of 15 victories.

He will face stiff competition from World No.1 Brooks Koepka and local favourite Rory McIlroy.
