Tiger Woods makes a move up the leaderboard in Mexico

Tiger Woods opened his weekend in Mexico with a double-bogey on the first hole and settled for an even-par round on Thursday, but the 18-time WGC winner vaulted into the top ten on Friday.

Woods almost got himself in trouble again with his first shot of the day, but his wayward shot off the tee at 10 clanked off a tree and ended up in the fairway.

Woods would go on to par the hole, and played his first six holes of the day at 3-under par.

Tiger made the turn with a score of 33, and dropped to 4-under by pouring in a 21-foot birdie putt at the par-3 third.

Two holes later, Woods hit a 145-yard approach shot from out of the first cut to 13 feet, then made his fifth birdie putt of the day from outside eight feet.

Woods tee shot at No. 9 ended up in a fairway bunker and left him with an impossible-looking shot – but Tiger delivered what might be the highlight of the year so far, slicing the ball around a tree and threatening the cup with an unreal release on the green.

Woods’ biggest issue? He’s chasing leader Dustin Johnson, who went bogey free through his first 30 holes and dropped to 11-under for the tournament midway through his second round. It’s likely going to take a low score on Saturday for Woods to put himself in position to win, and the top of the leaderboard is stacked with some of the world’s best players.
