CHARLOTTE, N.C. _ People like hanging out at Quail Hollow on a sunny weekend. Doesn't matter whether it was for a major, such as August's PGA Championship, or back to the annual Wells Fargo Championship in May. Charlotte comes out at least as much for the socializing and people-watching as the golf, as the crowds demonstrated. Some takeaway thoughts on the week:
1. Tiger Woods' putting woes
Until he fixes whatever is wrong on the greens _ he keeps leaving putts short _ Tiger Woods isn't going to be a threat to win. As he summed up Sunday on a round of zero birdies, "I had my chances, and I missed them all."
2. Charlotte's love for Tiger
Charlotte loves Tiger, and Tiger loved back. Shortly after finishing his round Sunday, he tweeted that he "felt so much love and support from the fans all week. I won't forget it, thanks again, Charlotte." Does that translate to, "I'll be back"?
3. Just laugh, and move on
Brice Garnett was 17 over Sunday. Not for the tournament, for his final round. His round of 88 started poorly with four bogeys, but it was the last two holes that were unreal: a triple bogey on No. 17, followed by a quadruple bogey on 18.
4. Direct line upstairs
Quail Hollow Club president Johnny Harris is about as well connected as anyone in Charlotte, but heaven, too? A few days ago, the weather forecast looked dicey for Sunday, but Harris couldn't have ordered up a prettier day for a final round.
5. Forever Phil
A ninth top-10 finish here for Phil Mickelson without a title. But the way the crowd at No. 18 swooned Sunday, when he sank a 20-foot punt, he's still beloved.
