Tiger Woods delivers epic celebration after first birdie during awful round

Tiger Woods came to Royal Portrush for the 2019 British Open knowing his game was off, and admitted to reporters that he wasn’t as sharp as he’d like to be ahead of the final major of the year. It didn’t take long for Woods to fall out of contention on Thursday – he caused a panic on Twitter by grimacing after his first shot of the day – and he was five shots over par after just nine holes.

Woods continued to drop down the leaderboard as his round progressed – but he did deliver one vintage highlight at the par-4 15th hole. Woods drained a lengthy putt to card his only birdie of the day, and played up his celebration for the crowd.

Woods finished the day at 7-over par, 12 shots behind leader J.B. Holmes. At this point, it’s going to take a heroic effort on Friday for Tiger to make the cut.
