Tiger Woods allays injury fears ahead of The Players after Bay Hill withdrawal

Tiger Woods says he feels good going into The Players Championship after he withdrew from last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational with a neck strain.

The 80-time PGA Tour champion, who will play a nine hole practice round on Tuesday in Florida, assured fans that his injury had nothing to do with his troublesome back, but revealed that he could not make a full swing of the club.

Having first felt the problem in Mexico during the World Golf Championship, Woods arrived at TPC Sawgrass ready to go after a break and light practice.

"I feel good," Woods told Golfweek. "Everything is good, I feel good, I just needed last week off.

"I didn't want to push it. No need to, not at my age. I can't do that anymore.

"I could feel it in Mexico," Woods added. "It wasn't fun. I couldn't make a backswing, I couldn't make a follow through, and I couldn't make a complete swing."

Woods will play alongside defending champion Webb Simpson and his Ryder Cup partner Patrick Reed on Thursday.
